Pioneer TSSW251 Shallow Mount 10 Inch 800 Watts Subwoofer

Pioneer TSSW251 Shallow Mount 10 Inch 800 Watts Subwoofer

Less than 3.5-inches deep and requires an extremely small enclosure making it the ideal subwoofer for consumers who want the added benefits of bass in their cars but are not fond of the inconvenience associated with large subwoofer enclosures.

The Pioneer TSSW251 Shallow Mount 10 Inch 800 Watts Subwoofer is packed with additional new features including C-type shaped reinforced nodes, M-shaped three-layer fiber woven radial surround, interlaced ultra-long glass fiber reinforced IMMP cone, large magnet circuitry and 2-piece T-pole yoke all of which help produce great audio quality for this extremely shallow speaker. Because of the air suspension technology, the subwoofer requires much less than the standard 1.0 cubic foot of enclosure volume to perform at its optimal level.

The rear of the subwoofer features a stamped metal fin-shape directional basket directing air movement sideways, to eliminate the loading effect when the rear of the subwoofer is installed too close to the wall of a speaker enclosure. Additional features of the subwoofer include increased input power capabilities and spring loaded input terminals.

Pioneer TSSW251 Shallow Mount 10 Inch 800 Watts Subwoofer Reviews

Shallow mount subwoofers are becoming very popular because the technology has gotten to the point that they are actually good, not just thin. Shallow mount means that the box it fits into can be quite thin from front to back. In the case of the Pioneer TSSW251 the internal volume can be very small as well. This means the sub can be mounted in more locations, often out of the way and hidden.

Note the rear view of the Pioneer sub. It is very unusual and clearly a lot of engineering effort has gone into making these things work. It is not just a flattened out conventional design.

I was able to hide it away in a cubby hole and got rid of the big box that used to take up a lot of cargo area, could attract thieves and would probably hit me in the back of the head in a collision.

Pioneer has recommended box volumes. Mine is home-made and is below the optimum size, but it still works very nicely, with a lot more bass than the previous traditional long-throw (deep dish) 8″ sub in a far bigger box. It is designed for a sealed box, not a ported design.

Any decent amp will power it. No need for 1000 watts. I used a 350 watt mono Alpine.

I was very pleased with the price. It actually seems inexpensive for what you get.
