The video card on my laptop died and it was too expensive to replace the whole motherboard so I needed a way to retrieve all of my data. I bought this after reading through all of the positive reviews and am very satisfied with the product. It is my first enclosure purchase and had I waited and read some of the latest reviews that have been submitted after my purchase then I may not have purchased this one. If installed properly, the hard drive does not rattle or move around inside the enclosure as some have stated (just secure it in place to the circuit board with the same four screws you took out of the metal case the disk was in).
In my case, after removing the hard drive from my laptop, I had to remove the disk out of the metal case and take off the adapter at the end before fitting it to the enclosure’s circuit board. I secured it with the four screws from underneath and then slid the circuit board back into the enclosure and tightened the two screws on the outside of the enclosure. Lastly, plugged the mini USB into the enclosure and the full USB into another laptop and I could read the files. I did have to take ownership of some of the folders and files by changing the security but after that it was smooth sailing. I haven’t had the product for a long time so I can’t comment on reliability. However, my initial impression is positive.
